Sustainability

At Centregreat, we are acutely aware of the profound challenge climate change poses to the global community, and we recognize the crucial role we must play in addressing this threat. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is driven by a vision to achieve a net positive impact on the planet. To us, reducing our carbon emissions is a critical step in a broader journey toward mitigating climate change. Our comprehensive climate change policy is an integral part of our wider sustainability strategy, which focuses on implementing low carbon solutions and adhering to the principles outlined in ISO 50001 and PAS 2080.

As a company that places the environment at the heart of its operations, Centregreat has embedded environmental considerations into every facet of our business. This commitment is reflected in our formal policies and is implemented throughout our operations. We are dedicated to using resources more efficiently, minimizing our reliance on finite resources, and exploring innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our efforts have already yielded significant progress in reducing energy, fuel, and waste consumption. These achievements not only lead to lower operating costs but also enhance the value we deliver to our customers. In alignment with our ISO 14001 objectives, we have set an ambitious internal 5-year target to cut our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40%. Our strategy encompasses not just the scope 1 and 2 emissions, which are under our direct control, but also scope 3 emissions associated with the materials we use. In partnership with WRAP, we are calculating the embodied carbon in our waste, furthering our commitment to environmental stewardship.

To continue our journey toward achieving Net Zero, we have outlined specific carbon reduction targets:

  • We plan to increase the electrification of our fleet by 5% annually until 2030, with a goal to have our complete car fleet fully electric by 2030.
  • We are introducing HVO fuel as a sustainable alternative to diesel in our plant operations. Our phased approach aims for 25% HVO usage by the end of 2024, 60% by the end of 2025, and full transition to HVO by the end of 2026.
  • To complement our existing solar PV arrays, we are expanding our local generation capacity. Plans include installing solar PV systems at our Hayes facility in Cardiff and our Brackla Head Office, targeting net zero emissions from electricity usage—with the ambition to achieve net positive generation—by 2028.
  • Our continued investment in asset renewal is designed to enhance the efficiency of our fleet. We are identifying new and alternative equipment that not only reduces consumption but also decreases idling times, with a target to cut fuel use by 25% by 2027.

These targeted actions underscore our commitment to environmental responsibility and our unwavering dedication to playing a proactive role in combating climate change. Through innovation, strategic planning, and responsible operations, Centregreat is firmly on the path to a sustainable future.
